Research and development in HIV and AIDS for a cure, vaccine and advanced treatment is critical to end HIV and AIDS by 2030. During clinical trials, research is highly regulated with policy documents and procedural guidelines such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) which cover most aspects of clinical research.
None of these documents discuss standards for engaging community in the research process. Engagement in research refers to the meaningful involvement of patients, caregivers, clinicians, community and all other stakeholders throughout the research process.
The objective of our campaign is to determine current knowledge around community engagement in clinical trials which will address what we want to better understand about meaningful community engagement in clinical trials.
